With so many Black queer women flourishing in entertainment, ELIXHER decided to bring you a weekly round up. Every weekend, you can find out what’s happening on television, in music and everywhere in between. This week’s installment features Brittney Griner, CeCe McDonald, and more.


The Advocate Names Janet Mock & More in ’40 Under 40′

This week, The Advocate revealed that New York Times bestselling author, Janet Mock, Phoenix Mercury center, Brittney Griner and CeCe McDonald were listed in their annual “40 Under 40″ list. They were among Nate Silver, Mary Lambert and Frank Mugisha, just to name a few. The Advocate is letting readers vote for who they want to see on the cover.

Outwrite LGBT Book Festival Kicks Off

This weekend, the Outwrite lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) festival kicks off in Washington D.C. at the D.C. Center. The festival, which takes place this entire weekend, kicks off with “Speaking of Essex: Tribute to Essex Hemphill” Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, August 2, the festival starts with “20th Anniversary: Stone Butch Blues” and a vulnerability writing workshop at 11 a.m. On Sunday, “Flicker and Spark Poetry Brunch,” a celebration brunch celebrating Regie Cabico and Brittany Fonte’s Lambda Literary Award is featured at 11 a.m.

This week, Poca The PaperGirl and DJ Mary Mac released a new video titled, “We Made It (5 Star Remix).” It’s a remix to Jay Electronica and Jay Z’s single, which takes place at a local bodega.Check it out below.
